Venezia (Venice)

Departing from Milano, we spent our third night in the supposedly lovely and romantic Venezia. The cold was getting unbearable because temperatures dropped to approximately -7 degrees centigrade and we saw the unusual phenomenon of snow in Venezia. Our wet feet from the flooded city didn't help at all.

We arrived during high tide. Here's a picture of the flooded Doge's Palace.

The winged lion with a book is the symbol of St Mark, one of the Gospel writers. He is the patron saint of Venezia.

This is the bell tower in St Mark's square.

This is Saint Mark's Basilica. Comparing it with the other churches we saw, I was least impressed by the architecture of this Byzantine-styled building. During high-tide, the waters reach knee-height in the church.

As part of our tour itinerary, we visited the glass blowing factory. Skillful eh?

Concluding our tour in Venezia was the overpriced gondola ride. Once in the lifetime is more than enough. Priced at a slit-throat 35 euro per person, the gondola took us into the canals of Venezia while we huddled together for warmth as the cold winds blew.
